Salty, Savory Sweet Broccoli Salad

Salty, Savory Sweet Broccoli Salad

My family loves this salad. Its wonderful by itself, but we usually serve it as a side dish. My little uncle, Thomas, calls it, "grass grazing good." He waits until the entire family has prepared their plates and takes the bowl of what's left. This recipe was a little strange to them,
at first, but its love at first bite.

Ingredients

1 lb bacon (fried and drained)
8 cups of broccoli florets
2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup of crushed pineapple (drained)
1/2 cup of golden raisins
1/3 cup of finely chopped onion
1 cup of mayonnaise
1/4 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

In a large bowl, toss broccoli, cheese, onions, and raisins together. Crumble bacon over broccoli mixture. Pour pineapples in mixture and toss.

In a small bowl, mix mayo, sugar and vinegar. When all ingredients are mixed well, pour over broccoli mixture, and stir.

Refrigerate over night. Stir well before serving.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing you and your family a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Cheap and Easy Thanksgiving Bread Basket

Cheap & Easy Thanksgiving Bread Basket

Supplies:

Basket from the Dollar Tree
Tamale Corn Husks from the Grocery Store
Hot Glue and Gun
Newspaper Rubber Band
Ribbon
Twine

Start by placing the rubber band around the top of the basket.

Dot hot glue up and down a small area of the basket. Place a corn husk under the rubber band, in the area you placed the hot glue, and press.

Move to the space, right beside that corn husk, and repeat process. Be sure to dot the edge of the last corn husk, with a bit of glue, before overlapping husk. Your rubber band will help keep husks in place while the glue dries.

You will have to keep pulling your rubber band up, as you glue, to keep it towards the top of the basket.

Once your basket is completely wrapped with husk, allow to dry before you begin to place ribbons and twine.

Place a dot of hot glue on the corn husk and place your ribbon on it. Allow to dry, then tie ribbon around basket. Do the same for the twine. I chose to wrap the twine around the basket several times to give it a rustic feel. If you do the same, you will have to push the gun beneath the layers of twine and glue the twine in place.

Take a pair of scissors and cut off any excess husk, from the bottom of the basket, to allow it to sit level.

I'm going to drape the inside of mine with a cloth napkin before using.

Now, its ready to add a festive touch to your Thanksgiving table.

Holiday Shopping Safety Tip

Holiday Shopping Safety Tip

Ladies - When you're in the large retail stores, Christmas shopping, choose a cart with a child's safety belt - whether you have a child with you or not. Simply - pull the safety belt through the handles of your purse and latch it. This will reduce the changes of you falling victim to a snatch and grab. The bad guys have already started, ripping handbags from shopper's shoulders and running.

Of course, you never want to leave your purse open in a store and never out of your sight. Doing this will make it difficult for someone to just grab up your purse and run.

DIY - Snowflake Ornaments From Drink Bottles

Snowflake Ornaments Made From Drink Bottles

Great project for kids - Adults, Please do the cutting, then give to children to decorate.

Collect several plastic drink bottles of various sizes. Rinse out bottles and allow to dry. With scissors or box blade, carefully cut off bottom of bottles. Use a hole punch to make a hole for inserting ribbons. Then, use acrylic or fabric puff paint to draw on your snowflakes. These, I sprinkled on a bit of iridescent glitter on, to give them some sparkle.

Here's another project where the kids can get involved and you can upcycle those old pasta sauce jars.

Supplies:

Clear School Glue
Paint Brush
Jars
Epsom Salt
Holiday Stickers (if you wish)
Newspaper

Spread out your paper to work on. Place your stickers on the jar.
Start by squeezing some glue on the jar.

Sprinkle Epsom Salt over the exterior of the jar. If there are spots where the salt is not adhering to the jar, squeeze a small amount of glue on that area and reapply salt.

Christmas Refrigerator Magnet - Fund Raiser Idea

Christmas Refrigerator Magnet

My little niece's 3rd grade class decided they wanted to do fund raisers. These children wanted to raise money to pay for field trips for any child whose parents couldn't pay for these outings. It touched my heart to think that these young, little people cared so much about one another. They were determined to do what it took to make sure that everyone got go on these outings.

Of course, the children needed items to sell. Once they shared their story, people were willing to help by donating items. My sister-in-law, my niece's mother, and I put our heads together and we came up with this idea. It was simple, but something that can be used for the holidays.

Well, my niece and I spent an afternoon making these cute refrigerator magnet. We made about thirty for $5.00. She will turn that $5.00 into $30.00; not a bad return. In turn, she will be able to help 2 classmates go on their spring field trip. That does a heart good.

Supplies

Spray Paint
Clothes Pins (Dollar Tree)
1/4" Holiday Themed or Colored Ribbon (Walmart)
Peel and Stick Sheets of Magnets (Dollar Tree)

A day ahead, remove clothes pins from plastic, but keep pinned to cardboard. Spray paint one side of pins and allow to dry. Then flip them over, and spray paint the other side. Once dry, you can begin to tie on your ribbon. I tied the first ribbon, then untied it, and gave it to my niece to cut several ribbon strips of the same size. When she had 30 cut, we tied all the ribbons to the pins. We did the same with the magnet, as we did with the ribbon. I measured the magnets, and gave her one to go by, to cut the rest. Then it was as simple as peeling off the backing and sticking the magnets to the pins.

These will be great to hang those Photo Christmas Cards on the fridge. They're cute and festive.

Sparkling Snow Candle Holder - Upcycling Old Jars

Here's another way to reuse those old jars and make them festively, pretty. This is a craft that the kids can do with a little help from adults.

Supplies

Old jars
Iridescent Glitter
Clear School Glue
Ribbon of any color you choose
Tea light Candle

Simply squeeze some glue into the jar and tilt at a slightly, downwards angle. Turn the jar until the entire inner surface is covered with glue. Add more glue, as needed, to cover all the jar. You may have to use your finger to wipe over any spots that are bare.

When the entire interior of the jar is covered with glue, then sprinkle in some of the glitter. You'll have to sort of shake the jar to cover all areas. Simply cover the jar with your hand and shake until
the glitter covers all areas. Add more glitter until the entire jar is covered.

Dry upright, then insert candle. Tie a ribbon around the band and its ready to use.

These are really pretty in the light of day, but at night, when you fire up their candles . . . they put on a show.
