Dishwasher Tablets Recipe That's Cheap & Effective

Make your own inexpensive Dishwasher Detergent that really works

Dishwasher tablets can be expensive, coupled with the purchase of a drying agent, it becomes downright highway robbery. With this thought in mind, I set out to find a recipe that I could make at home. A recipe that was not only inexpensive to make, but one that worked well. After some trial and error, I can up with one that I'm impressed with and use for my dish washer.

Dawn dish detergent one of the ingredients, is relatively inexpensive, wherever you purchase it, but can get a bit pricey in some stores. For inexpensive suppliers and other tips, visit our post:
Homemade Cleaning Supplies Recipes

Ingredients:
1 Cup of Washing Soda
1 Cup of OxyClean (I use the Odor Blaster one.)
1 1/4 Cups of Dawn Dish Detergent
30 drops of Essential Oil  (if you use OxyClean without the added scent)

Supplies:
2 Ice Cube Trays
Cardboard or rigid item to turn cubes out on and to dry
Whisk or fork
Large mixing bowl
Measuring Cup

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the OxyClean and Washing Soda

Add 30 drops of Essential Oil and whisk into powders.

Add all of dish detergent and mix.

Pour mixture into ice cube trays. Mixture will fill one entire tray and about 1/2 of another. Level mixture off in trays. Then with 2 fingers, press mixture in each cube. This will decrease the size of the cubes to about 2/3 the normal size. Allow to air dry for 2 hours.

Turn tray upside down on a rigid surface. You will need to press on the bottom of the tray, of each cube, to get them to release and drop from the tray. Allow them to sit for about 2 hours to dry.

Once completely dry, store cubes in an airtight container. Yields about 24 tablets.

When you're ready to use, place in detergent compartment as usual, and fill your rinse agent dispenser with White Vinegar for spotless dishes.
